Research shows that organisations that want to be successful need:
-
Clarity of Direction.
Organisations need to know where they are going, have clear targets, goals and objectives, and they need a plan outlining how they are going to get there. Clarity of direction decides where to put focus, effort and resource. It decides what is important and unimportant. It decides what gets done and just as importantly, what doesn't get done.
-
Agreed Behavioural Values.
Values determine 'the way we do things around here'. They guide behaviour and decisions and show what is important to an organisation. As with clarity of direction above, they also determine what is unimportant.

Together, clarity of direction and agreed behavioural values
provide a powerful combination for any organisation. Together they provide reassurance to all stakeholders that the organisation knows what it's about, where it's going, and how things get done. In these types of organisations decisions become clear, engagement is increased, and effort is aligned to meet organisational objectives.
The TMS strategy process focuses on the two critical areas outlined above. TMS aims to take the mystery out of the strategic planning process so it is easily understood and becomes a tangible process that guides everyday organisational activity.
TMS uses the 'Organisation Scorecard' approach to ensure implementation of the strategy is measureable over time.
The TMS Strategy formulation process covers:
|

|
Vision: A defined future picture of the organisation. Usually 3-5 years time
Values: Statements to define desired organisation behaviour
External Opportunities: existing lines of business, new lines of business
Internal Capabilities: people, processes, technology to realise the lines of business
Present Situation: Analysis of the of the organisation and current and future market conditions (positive and negative).

The Concept of Strategic Intelligence
The successful implementation of strategy depends on more than simply high order strategic thinking. The strategy has to be communicated and 'sold' to others; it has to be successfully implemented. The wider ability to think, communicate and implement strategy is what we term Strategic Intelligence.
|
Implementation and use of the Strategic Intelligence Assessment (SIA)
The SIA 360° feedback instrument is built primarily around the specific development needs and strategic behaviours of senior managers and is intended to be used within the context of performance management, and leadership and management development programmes.

Post Strategy Formulation
TMS has over 20 years experience at making strategy work. Beyond strategy formulation (Vision & Values) there is a requirement to ensure full understanding and ownership throughout the organisation. Translation of the big picture into team and individual priorities is also vital. Our experience will ensure this is acheived.
